I am 20 year old high school graduate. I worked for three years at a check cashing/payday loan firm inside a Circle K. We have three locations in my town. On June 29 I was called in to the main office on my day off and told that my register had come up 200 dollars short. I could not offer an explanation of why I came up short because when i closed out, I was even. My area manager demanded my keys and name tag. I was supposed to be paid on the 7th of October for the week I had worked. Although I repeatedly inquired about my check, I never recieved it. When I asked to see the videotape of that day, no one could produce it. I would like to know if I can file suit against the company for my last check and for wrongful discharge. They have no physical proof of any wrongdoing on my part. Also, I was told by a trusted individual that one of my coworkers had spread rumors that I had gotten fired because I was taking money. This got back to the Circle K manager and prevented me from employment there. Is there any action that I can take against that coworker? Also, I would like to know the rules on lunches and breaks because I worked from 8:30 in the morning until 7:30 at night with no lunch break. Please if anyone can help me please e-mail me. It would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE!!!!!! My sister worked at the Cricle K and they fired her for stealing! Their inventory came up 2800 dollars short and since the girl i worked with had told everyone i had taken money, they accused her of stealing too. Their district manager told her to write a statement saying she would pay back the money in two weeks or they would send her to jail. He told her that until she wrote the statement she could not leave and barred her way to the door. So she wrote it. we are in the process of retaining a lawyer and will try to get these b*st*rds. thanks for your input guys

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

You probably have a good case on all of your concerns. But you MUST speak with an EMPLOYMENT LABOR LAW ATTORNEY in your state to help you and get this mess cleaned up.

Try attorneypages.com or contact your state bar association (dial 411) and ask for lawyer referral. Also, contact your county's legal aid foundation because you may qualify for free legal representation.
