ny. 5/7/01, i was hired by fox navigation to work as a full time steward on board the tri-cat boats. this job was taking care of the safety and comfort of passengers. this commuter ran daily round trips from glen cove to pier 11, nyc with an occassional weekend day, round trip run to new london, ct. for passengers going to the foxwood casino. on september 27, 01, i was informed by letter that my position was eliminated. all of the female stewards were furloughed. there are now only male stewards working this position. these people were hired after me in seniority. i was verbally told it was because they are working two positions, steward/deckhand. i have since learned that the stewards are not doubling as deckhands. i was directly informed by grant parker, gm, that they (fox navigation) only wanted people who lived close by. reviewing the employee list of stewards, i live the closest to the ferry terminal in glen cove. i need to know if this is a viable case and worth persuing against Fox Navigation and the Foxwood Casino.
