The employer can fire you for any reason they want to fire you. Your only recourse in this situation will probably be to file for unemployment benefits. your employer does not determine whether you can get benefits or not, you file and the unemployment office makes a decision. The employer, if they fire you, must prove that you were fired for a valid misconduct reason to keep you from getting unemployment benefits.

When you file, the unemployment service will ask several questions. Most importantly, how was the spot marked, had there been any previous policies or situations where it was brought up that anyone who parked there would be subject to termination? In other words, did you know, when you parked in that spot, that you might be fired for it? Had you ever done it before, had you had prior warnings about doing it?

If they had it in their company policies and everyone was clearly informed that if you parked in the wrong spot, you would be fired on the spot:) then your chances of getting approved for unemployment aren't too great. It was your choice. If you really weren't too conscious of it being a "sacred spot" and you've seen others park in it before without repercussions, then you may have a better chance. But file a claim, it costs nothing, has no downside.
