I have been with my work for only a month after leaving a company I've been with for nearly 10 years. I was let go without verbal or written notice. The company I worked for was a Private company. What laws are there to protect employees like me?

Based on the facts in your post, none. Nothing in the law says you have to be given any kind of notice unless you have a bona fide, enforceable contract that says otherwise.
