my best friend was called a moment ago and informed that she was no longer needed at her job. she had a baby 9 days ago and has been on maternity leave for 3 weeks. is this legal in north carolina?
You haven't given us enough facts to say. You can be fired in spite of taking maternity leave, just not because of it. What reason was given? Was she the only one laid off or were others as well?
she was not given a reason. they simply told her not to come back. no one else was laid off or let go. she has never been repromanded or written up for any reason in the past. the only time she missed work was for her check ups and they were given written notice from her doctor.
