If a person is fired, are they elligible for unemployment? Does one need to be at a job for a minimal amt. of time to collect?

It depends on the reason they were fired.

Yes, you have to have been employed for a minimum period, but prior employment can count.

My hubby was successfully self-employed for many years. He took on a "real" (no offense, please) job for benefits back in April '07. He was just fired yesterday. I'm pretty sure he may try to start up his business again, but I didn't know if he'd be elligible. They said he falsely put in for some hours 1 day....no warning, just fired.

Your husband should apply for UC benefits. It will be up to the employer to demonstrate to the State that your husband falsified his time card. If they can, then it's quite unlikely the State will award benefits.

I agree. Your husband should apply for UI - it can't hurt to apply.
