Are there any FL state or Federal laws governing how long an employer is required to provide employment history verifications on previous employees? For example, if we receive a verification request for an employee that has not worked for the company for over a year, over 5 years, etc...are we required to provide employment history information (with the former employee's signed release of course).

Thanks! What is the name of your state?

This is entirely a matter of company policy. You don't have to ever verify employment or provide references if you don't wish to - however in most instances, it's a courtesy to the former employee to do so. If it's for a mortgage, a loan, or to obtain new employment, your employee could easily be SOL if you refuse to do so.
