My employer forces employees to sign letters of resignation when they perform lay-offs. Is this legal in the State of PA? What benefit to the employer is this? What benefit to the employee is this? A severance package is offered at the time of the forced resignation. If I am called in and refuse to sign the letter of resignation (layoffs due to high expense ratio), then fired instead do I have a case of unjustified firing? If I resign does it not damage the chance for unemployment compensation?
