What is the name of your state? California

Do you know what the law is regarding hiring someone in the medical field who was charged with a "Domestic Violence" charge, which was dropped to a misdemeanor? I have a friend who went to school to be a medical assistant and is trying to get a job. He wants to know if this is a nationwide law or specific to California, Can a person not be hired if they are charged with a felony or misdemanor?
