I'm in Pennsylvania (Harrisburg area). I was once fired from a job for attendance issues (very valid reason - not important here) My question is, is it legal for this former employer to disclose that information to a perspective employer who might contact him as a reference? I was once told (by an unreliable source) that the only info my ex-employer could give would be in regards to my work habits and performace, *not* whether I was let go or fired. Any info would be appreciated!

I am not an attorney. . .

Your unreliable source is actually reliable. I am not certain of the laws in PA, but in Ohio you are not allowed to disclose that information. Basically in Ohio you are only allowed to ask if they were a good employee.
