    Question Internal positions

What is the name of your state? North Carolina

Are there any regulations on posting open jobs internally before just giving someone the job? There is a position that has been created and was filled by a current employee, but I (or anyone else) was not given an opportunity to apply and I would have liked to (and am qualified for it).

    Thanks...

Nope. Your employer can fill jobs in any manner they wish - hire from the outside, promote from within, post jobs, not post jobs, hire the CEO's relatives for all open positions, or send someone out on the street to make offers to passers-by. Whatever they want.

The only caveat is that they can't base those decisions on prohibited reasons - age, race, gender, religion, national origin, and so forth.
