What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Can am employer legally monitor your HOME internet usage on YOUR OWN private computer? Are they permitted to hack into your system and get passwords to your computer and/or websites you visit like facebook?

And just how is the employer doing this?

Yes, if you could explain how/how you know your employer is doing this, it would help to determine if what's happening is legal or not.

HACKING into your computer is illegal no matter who does it. Monitoring public posts you make on facebook, etc, is legal. Be careful who you allow on your friends list.

If you check your work email on your home computer, at home, does that give the employer the legal right to access anything on your home computer, or what websites you frequent? Can they gain access to any passwords you may have because of this?

Believe me, it is not due to anything I have ever posted, or anybody I am friends with. This is just in regards to the legality of an employer being able to do this.

If you log into a web portal into your company's system, and visit web sites WITHIN that portal, they can see anything you do over their server. They shouldn't be able to see anything you do on your local computer only.

And when they look at this stuff this way, they aren't hacking into your system, rather, by using their system to look at your system, you have invited them into your system.

If you're angling to sue someone over this, it would be yourself that you'd sue.
