What is the name of your state? TX
i was recently informed from co-workers that the medical facility i am employed to is going to make all employees become drivers for the company. the employee handbook states that the company reserves the right to make changes as necessary. i understand for them to do this they must view my driving record for insurance purposes. if i dont consent to them pulling my record, do they have the authority to fire me?

Yep, they sure do.

And they have the authority to fire you for being 1 minute late, for standing too long at the water cooler and for a whole plethera (I love that word) of other things.

Okay, you just hit one of my hot buttons.

A "right to work" state means you can't be forced to join a union in order to get work. What you mean is an at-will state. And there are 49 of them - at will states, I mean - and the 50th state follows the at-will doctrine in some situations.

Sorry, but that phrase gets misused a lot.

You know, cbg, I'm still trying to figure out what happens if you fire someone for no good reason in Montana. Do they make you re-hire, or what?

You know cbg, I saw that and was tempted to answer, but then I figured you or beth would and I'd better let that sleeping dog snore a little longer :D

Haven't a clue, Ramoth, I've never had employees in Montana and the state web site is vague as to what constitutes "good cause". Not exactly silent, but they aren't terribly specific either.

**A: personally, i like the word plethora better. What is plethera anyway? Some kind of night time cold medication or a body part?
At the beach: Adjust your thong Susie, your plethera is showing.
