Laid off due to work release

My friend was charged with and sentenced for 3rd degree drug sales

He was sentenced to 7 months in work release.

When he told his employer about it, they said they didnt want to deal with it and laid him off.


Is that enough grounds for termination?

Yes, that is a legal reason for termination. I can't even begin to imagine why you would think it wouldn't be.

I agree. He could have been terminated for a lot less than that. This was a legal termination.

Just because the terms of his sentence allow him to work doesn't mean his company's required to keep him on.
