What is the name of your state? Minnesota
A friend is devastated to find herself not only unemployed ,but asked to remove her things from her office immediately . She is a very sympathetic person teaching handicapped students in special ed. She is angry ,sad and unsure of what to do next. She said one of the worst things about it was that she couldn't say goodbye to her "kids" I say the worst thing about it is not knowing the reason for her termination . How can she go about finding a job not knowing what she did to deserve that? Can they legally do that? Who does she go to for answers?

Based on the limited information you've provided, yes, they can legally do that, assuming she does not have an enforceable employment contract to prohibit it. Has she spoken with the HR person and inquired? But why is that stopping her from seeking another employer? Teachers of handicapped students must be in great demand.

Is your friend also in Minnesota? If so, Minnesota is one of the very few states where, upon her WRITTEN request, the employer must provide her with a reason for her termination. She has only 15 days to make the request - if she misses that window, the employer has no legal obligation to comply.
