I am a software engineer in the consulting/contracting industry (in Ohio). Most firms in this industry have their employees sign non-competes. My research into this shows that these agreements are not legally binding in some states, but that in some of those states there's an exception for technology workers. I work in Ohio, and would like to know if these non-compete agreements are binding in my state?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Non-competes are binding to an extent. It depends on the subject matter and certain restrictions placed on the employee (technical worker or not). Also, if your state of Ohio carries a right to work statute, you have more fuel to the fire to void such a non-compete.
