I am currently working for a large corporation and they would like me to move over to a special project for a new business they are looking to expand into. They would like me to sign a non-compete clause for 2 year, in return if I am terminated they pay me severance equal to my salary for 1-2 years. My question is would I be able to quit and work for a competitor who is not directly involved in the new business we are expanding into? The competitor would compete with my old business unit however? I feel I am not really getting much for signing this clause and therefore should not be restricted to moving to a competitor where in my old position I would have been able to as I did not have a non-compete clause in place.
Can anyone provide some advice on this?
Thanks

But no matter where you were, the only thing we'd be able to do is to suggest you have the agreement reviewed by a local attorney. We cannot comment on the enforceability of an agreement we have not read.
