Prior to starting employment, I had to sign a non-competition clause that prevents me from joining a competitor or starting my own business in a similar field for three years. Recently, I was laid off along with many other employees due to lack of work. Under the circumstances, would a non-competition clause still be valid in the state of Pennsylvania? Would it be legal for me to start my own business in a similar field?
