My current employer is asking all of us to sign a nondisclosure and noncompete agreement.

While I have done this at many jobs in the past and don't usually have a problem with them, this one seems particularly harsh.

It states that I have to agree not to compete with this type of business for a period of 3 years and that includes owning or working for any business or reasonably related business to this one.

It also states that I would have to pay "liquidated damages in an amout of $10,000 for any violation.

The state is Iowa and I am not that familiar with Iowa laws on this one. Can anyone give me some insight into this type of
agreement and whether it would hold up in a court of law??

Thanks in advance.
