not enough to waist the government's time??

I live in North Carolina. I have discovered that my former employer was required by law to pay it's hourly employees for mandatory staff meetings. I also found that they had rounded off more than 7 minutes on many occasions from my time cards. I only have physical evidence of two times when this has occured, but non regarding the unpaid meetings other than my word. Can anything be done...

    Your options are:

    1. Speak to your employer and tell them (nicely) that you believe they are violating state and federal wage and hour laws by not paying for mandatory meetings and that they are rounding off improperly* and that you wanted to bring it to their attention so they could research it themselves and correct the problem.

If that doesn't resolve things, then

    2. Contact your State's Department of Labor/wage and hour division and file a complaint.

*unless your State has a specific reg to the contrary, it's not illegal to round off time worked in greater than 7 minute increments. Some employers use 15 minute increments. Federal DOL guidelines allow an employer to institute reasonable rounding off practices but they must balance out over time and cannot favor the employer.
