Offer was made for monetary compensation in return for exiting the position at the end of the month. This offer was put in writing. One week later an email was sent claiming that the offer was no longer available because the Director (one who made the offer, along with the CFO) didn't realize that the organization was not allowed to make such and offer. My question is once there is an offer in writing, can it be rescinded? This offer was accepted verbally to the CFO on Monday, and email was sent on Thursday of the same week.

*** More than likely, yes. Unless you can provide something in writing confirming that a contractual basis exists, they will probably claim that you never accepted the offer.
Further, if they can show that the party who made the offer did not have the authority to do so, then the 'agreement' can be voided.

The final determination of the status of the agreement would depend on a FULL review of all the facts..... and possibly a ruling by a court.
