i would like to know if an employer has the right to dock a worker's pay. a friend of mine, who works in a cafe, was docked three hour's pay because her boss claimed she hadn't cleaned up properly. her pay is also docked every time the register comes up short. is this legal? she works in Pennsylvania.

also, she works twelve-hour shifts without a break. is this legal?

thank you for your help.

As to the pay docking, no, they cannot do this. Have her call the state DOL.

As far as the 12 hour shifts with no break, yes, in PA this is legal.
