What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Massachusetts

If a Company handbook states "upon verbal or written request you will be provided a copy of your personnel file" but then doesn't follow through on your request...well can they do that....and not give you a copy of your file...

In MA, upon WRITTEN request, they are required to allow you to view your file within 5 days of the request.

If, after viewing your file, you then submit a WRITTEN request for a copy of your file, they must provide a copy within 5 days of the request.

MA law does not require them to provide access to the file upon verbal request. A company policy is not a contract.
