we live in ohio and my spouse was terminated from his job at a very large company. we want to know if it is legal for them to withold information in his personnel file from him. we wanted to get a copy of his termination papers and they told us we had to subpeona them because they were the property of the company. do we have the right to look through them and receive copies?

Company files

The company files are the property of the company and an employee has no right to see them. You could subpeona them in connection with a law suit.

THe above is true, however they do have to provide you with some sort of ducumentation regarding termination. They may not have to give that directly to you, but you can go to your employment office, file an unemployment claim, and get the information that way!
