I was let go from my last employer due to industry downturn (so they said). I applied for a new position and everything went well until the new company called my last employer. The previous employer said that I violated a federal privacy law and that was why I was let go. I was never told this, nor do I believe I ever violated this law.

Now my potential new employer is hesitant to hire me. What can I do? Thanks.
