Hello,

My written request for vocation has been approved by employer. I spent $$$ for tickets, reservations etc which are non-refundable. Now they are saying there's no way I can take this vacation because they don't have enough staff to work.
Who to pay for all expenses. Can I do anything in this situation?

Thank you!

Not really.

Vacations are not a protected right or benefit. If the circumstances have changed since your vacation was approved, your employer is legally within their rights to withdraw the approval. It would be nice of them to repay you for the money you are out, but they are not legally required to do so.

All you can do is explain the situation to them and hope that they will be willing and/or able to find staffing elsewhere.
