What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?NC
I have been told that in NC your previous employer can only tell a prospective employer your hire and fire ( if fired) date and if they would rehire. Is this True?

I suspect if NC had a statute that limited what an employer can say, it would violate the right to free speech.

Former employers may legally tell prospective employers anything they want about ex-employees as long as what they say is true or they believe it to be true.
