My husband was relocated to Portland, OR from the Chicago area in July for a promotion. Mid-August the company (large national corportation) started "reorganizing". By September they told him he was being laid off. They offered for him to stay on temporarily while they "posted the new version of his job" The outcome was they told him he was not qualified for the new job (other people with less experience and education were kept on in other areas of the US). Becuase he offered to stay on (thinking it was in his best interest) he voided his severance package. He is now on "special Assignment" which may or may not continue and which may not continue at his present salary. Most of the posted jobs are being filled by displaced managers from closed centers (favors for friends program). We feel that 1) they owe us compensation for moving us out here and then dumping him 1.5 months later and 2) that there is discrimination and unfair labor practices in the hiring of the replacements. Any advice? Some people tell us we should contact a lawyer and others say we should just forget about it and move on.
