I'm in California.
My wife was working for a company and was being overpaid.
She advised them and they started taking out extra money
from her paycheck to get the extra back (50% of her salary! Whci didn't leave her with much). She has since quit due
to issues with her manager. The company says they are
keeping her final check and is also requesting she pay the
difference to them immediately.

Does my wife have any recourse on how this money gets
repaid. Can they keep all of her paycheck or do they
first have to pay her, then ask for reimbursement?

She was overpaid about $4000 and has a couple yet to go.

Thanks.
