What is the name of your state? Minnesota

My friend was just wrongfully terminated. He had an employment contract that provided for severance benefits when he retired which was to be July of 2006. Employer trumped up excuse to fire him with cause which negated progressive discipline portion of contract. (1) Does trumped-up excuse (dishonesty) void the employment contract? (2) Employer says if employee signs statement that he was dishonest they will honor his severance package. Employee was not dishonest and doesn't want to sign but can't afford to lose severance. Can employer hold his severance hostage with unproven allegations and force him to sign false "confession" in order to get his severance? Employee was there 10 years. What should now-former employee do?

Since we have not read the contract, we don't know the answer. He will have to show the contract to an attorney in his state.

Sorry, but that is completely a PERSONAL question and without any legal issues.
If 'he' wants to pursue legal issues, he will have to have an attorney review his case. If he wants a personsal answer... he needs to make that on his own.
