My company has filed chapter 11 and has been bought by another company. I have 8 weeks left with the company and then severance pay for 8 weeks. My question is: What is a normal or fair offer for severance? I heard 1 month per year is the norm. I have been with the company 10 years. Can I ask for more or do I just except?

The law does not require severance, so you have no legal basis to ask for more than they offer.

As for the norm, I don’t know, but I have heard of big companies paying 1 week per year and one month per year, and I am sure there are other formulas also.
