my husband started a job and quit it 5 weeks later. He had received a signing bonus that was paid in full at the first pay period. Now that we quit, the company garnished all his wages from his last check and they want the remainder of the signing bonus back. He was never informed that there were any stipulations regarding the signing bonus. He did not sign anything indicating that he owed the $ back in the event employment was severed by either party. Is there anything we can do? We are in North Carolina?

term signing bonus means you actually signed something. well, read that.

also, check employment law at this site.

i personally don't think there is anything you can do.

Most businesses have some sort of policy about length of time you must remain on the job for a sign-on bonus. If there was no such requirement I don't see how they could keep his wages for work he has already done. Keep checking further for more information.
