What happens in a case where a teacher leaves a school due to unprofessional behavior from her boss. Then 4 years later that same boss gives negative reports when a backround check is being done for a new position as a teacher by the city and contacts that spiteful boss?
I was selected top canditate for a teacher with the city. Then shocked to hear a negative report was given when the backround check was conducted. Can I sue the old boss for slander?
Do I have rights to ask the City who and what was said?
Please answer quickly

You can sue the old boss for slander if you can prove he told a lie about you. You probably have no right to the city file on this until you do sue; then you could get the file under discovery. That would prove that s/he made the statement. Then you would have to prove it was false.
