What is the name of your state? WA

I offered to continue working for my employer part-time after my official resignation date. He asked me to submit a request to him regarding the amount of compensation I would like. Upon turning this in to him, he said "you owe us, not the other way around", you're an extortionist" in front of an office full of co-workers.

Can he do this?

Yes, he can. That is not defamation; that is his opinion. He is entitled to it.
