i was laid off from my job in ny while i was out from an injury that i received at work 2 weeks earlier. the company might be using california labor laws. is it legal to lay you off while you are out injured or must they wait until you return to work. it was a privately owned company

same here

I had a similar thing happen, except that I was on a scheduled vacation. Came back to find out that I no longer worked there. The responses to date have been conflicting. The agency (contract) I worked for told me "nobody told us anything". However, they told the Unemploymant Office that I quit as I had another job (they even specified the company!!!). When that was proven false, they changed their story to "we terminated him as we thought he had another job". The place I worked at refused to talk to me. When I went to one interview, the interviewer came in,talked to me for a few minutes and gave the job details as totally different that what the recruiter had (pay was $6 per hour less!!),and then "escorted" me out the side door next to railroad tracks and the dumpster. Another place I interviewed at - interview seemed to go well - called later and said "we don't want anyone like you working here". WHAT???!!!

I've had 2 reference checks done on the contract agency. Neither had anything more than the required yes he worked here, job title,etc.). No idea as to what else to do to find out what is going on.

I'm in NY.
