What is the name of your state? CALIF

My previous employer owes me $5,000 in unpaid Overtime. The DOL investigated and performed an audit. They agreed that I was owed the $. However, even after DOL told them to pay they havent. DOL has informed me to get a lawyer and sue them for $5,000. Aren't they suppose to enforce this? Should I get a lawyer and go for it or chalk it up to experience?

Depending on state law and the exact circumstances, the enforcement powers of the DOL may or may not be limited. In any case, they are not interested in pursuing it further. If they told you to get a lawyer, get a lawyer or drop the whole thing; your choice.
