Unpaid Salary, Vacation, Personal and Sick

What is the name of your state? Michigan

I worked at my previous employer for four years. They went out of business on April 11. They did NOT file bankruptcy. I am owed for nine weeks pay, two weeks vacation, three personal days, nine sick days and my medical and dependent care reimbursement accounts.

I filed complaints with the State Wage and Hour Division and the Security and Benefits Admin. They have both gotten nowhere. In total I am out $10,894.85. Do I have any other alternatives? When I spoke with my former boss (the owner) he said that we could not get blood from a turnip. Is there any way I could pursue him personally?

Just as an FYI, while it's been quite a few years since I had employees in Michigan, it's rare that sick and personal days are required to be paid out unless there is a specific policy saying that they will be paid. Vacation days yes; many states require the payout of vacation and I think Michigan is one. But sick and personal? That's not generally required.

You can certainly speak to a local attorney about whether or not the owner can be held personally liable; in my state he could be but again not all states look at this the same way.
