verbal offer retracted

I live in CA. i currently work for a huge corporation. I was offered a position within this co and a salary after several days of negotiating wage. I counter offered and the next day decided to just take the original offer. I was then told the original offer was never auth'd but i find that hard to believe when it had went through several channels to get the offer since the salary I requested was above the range they were offering. I do believe it was auth'd but since it was a verbal offer is there anything I can do?
