Quick Question for CA Employment Laws.

Several teachers at our school have been "fired" due to "at will" employment contract....however, an employee handbook has been issued since they were hired describing the steps to being fired. Does the handbook rules/regs supersede the "at will" contract. Doesn't the school need to follow their employee handbook rules before firing?

If the handbook is well written, it contains a clause in which the employer reserves the right to change or amend policies, and to skip over steps in any disciplinary procedures. If such a clause exists, the employer is not required to follow the handbook. It is very rare that an employee handbook reaches the level of a contract.

For every 1 right an employee has, an employer has 100 rights. It's not fair at all but that the way it goes.
