Wrongful Termination?

What is the name of your state? Illinois

Area of work is in environmental sales and never was given a sales goal to achieve. This is the first year with the company and brought in 225k in sales, again with no sales goals given. Recently, There was a 28% pay cut in salary. When told this was not enough, I asked what should be brought in and was told "they didn't know". Then they decided it wasn't enough and cut salary by 28%.

Two questions. Firstly, is the pay cut excessive under law and can the company be sued for back pay since they never gave goals. Secondly, if terminated, does this sound like an unlawful termination?

No and no.

First of all, the law only requires that you be paid minimum wage. There is no law prohibiting "excessive" pay cuts. Barring a bona fide contract that says otherwise, as long as you are being paid minimum wage or more, the employer is legal.

The employer is not required by law to give you sales goals.

If terminated, it is entirely legal. A termination is only illegal if there is a specific law prohibiting terminations for the reason the employer uses. No law prohibits termination for for low sales, regardless of whether a sales goal was ever given/communicated or not.
