What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maryland

Hello,

We suffered water damage to our home due to the negligence of a local water company. They filed a liability claim with their insurance company; an independent adjuster contacted us. During our conversation, the adjuster recommended we use a contractor "that he uses all the time for most of his other claims" to repair our damage. After researching the adjuster's suggested contractor, we discovered that this independent insurance adjuster is also as a "manager" for this contracting company. We contacted the insurance company to request another adjuster; they refused. We are very concerned about the ethical legality of this insurance adjuster suggesting we use his related contracting company. Help!!

We intend to use an unrelated contractor. Surprised, though, that it's not against the rules to assume the position of an independent insurance adjuster while managing a contracting company that's used to settle the same adjuster's claims. At the very least, slimy.
