What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

We are a licensed and insured general contractor in TN (over 12 yrs in business) and now expanded into AL. We specialize in insurance claim restoration and repair. In the state of TN we have no problem being listed on the insurance checks as a joint payee...this helps cut down the fraud and trouble getting paid that we often experience otherwise. However, we have gotten conflicting information about the law in AL as it pertains to this. We have had someone tell us that it is illegal for the insurer to joint pay the check to the contractor, and someone else has told us almost the complete opposite; that they must list us on the check if the job is over $1,000.

Does anyone know the actual laws in AL as it pertains to us (the general contractor) being a joint payee on an insurance check?

I doubt it is illegal. There is simply no law that requires the insurance company to do what you're requesting.
