What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I have recently filed a claim with my insurance carrier for roof repair due to hail. I received the first check for the settlement, and it was made out to me and to the mortgage company. I called the mortgage company for instructions to get the check endorsed, and was told to endorse the check, fill out some forms, and send it to them. They will, in turn, issue a check to me and my contractor. Is this a common or usual procedure?
