Landlorf concerned abour guns, but not alligator?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington.

My landlord is concerned about my owning a gun and his homeowners insurance (which I know is NOT a problem with insurance carriers), yet they keep an alligator and several snakes (one being a rattle snake) in the basement directly below where I reside. I have read that their coverage can be dropped for owning herps, am I correct? I have the right to bare arms, and I am fully aware of it...and it there is no written contract saying I cannot have guns here.

You have the right to wear tank tops, and also to BEAR arms, which means the GOVERNMENT can't pass any laws forbidding you from owning them. However your landlord is free to make a rule that you can't keep guns on his property.

As long as it's already in the lease. If not, the landlord can add it when it renews! A responsible gun owner doesn't advertise that he has a gun. Unless you ran into the LL at the range, how does he know? I've carried for 16 years, my parents don't even know!

That's not a black and white issue. The landlord doesn't have to put every single rule in the lease and generally they are allowed to impose additional rules during the lease term so long as it does not substantially change the agreement - which is definitely a subjective standard. If OP were to try to break his lease over this issue, and LL did not agree to let him, it would be up to the judge in the resulting lawsuit to decide whether this rule would meet the standard or not.

True, but in this case ownership of a gun is legal. The LL would have a hard time adding this rule after a lease is drawn. Maybe the LL doesn't like the fact that the OP drives a foreign car, no way he could require the OP to drive a domestic unless it was already in the lease.
