Child born in USA ?

My wife having a baby this month here in the US and we're here because I'm studying. From what I know my baby going to be US citizen but is there anything required for here because we'll go to visit my country by the end of the month and back by the end of August. I'm worried about the immigration at the airport if they didn't accept admitting our baby for any reason that I don't know? Can you please help? Thanks in advance. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

Your child will require a passport which requires a birth certificate. Both of these take time. Then you'll like need a visa from the countries you intend to enter. It is unlikely that you will be able to obtain the necessary documents, even with expedited processing, in order to travel in less than a month.

Many airlines limit the travel of newborns; check the age requirements. Newborns require several physician visits during their first month of life. You must be first time parents; you do not understand how difficult it is to be in your own home with a newborn much less traveling across the world. IMO, unless the travel is essential, you should postpone it for several months.

Thanks candg918 for your quick response. Yes, we're first time parents.

We'll stay here after the due date for about 22 days and our doctor suggested 3 weeks for the baby before we travel, so it’s perfect. I checked with the airlines and they don't allow infants under 7 days old to fly so it's ok for us too. Also, I checked with my embassy and they'll take care of the baby access to our country.

So, this left us with the birth certificate and US passport. Is it possible to finish it within three weeks?

I would like to postpone our trip for months. Unfortunately, we will not be able to visit my country for a year from now and we've been away for a year now.

Thanks again.

You are really pushing the envelope with 22 days. What you need is for your doctor to expedite the birth certificate. Once you have one of those, you will need to make an appointment with a passport office (like Chicago) on an expedited passport. Bring with you your flight itinerary proving that you need an expedited passport.

I flew with a 29 day old baby - it took 26 days to get that passport.

The time to get the birth certificate varies by state. Research the process and have as much predone as possible so you can drop into the mail at first opportunity. Take advantage of any special handling and mailing; be sure to use signature required delivery if you live in an apartment or other location where security of mail may be an issue.

Happy baby.

It's very important that you get organized about this, and research how to get a US passport for baby before you leave.
US citizens --must-- enter and exit the country with their US passports; it's one little rule that bears remembering.

Last question please
What do you think about these websites? Are they helpful in my situation?

If your child is born in the US, it will be a US citizen - they have not changed laws on that as far as I know. I am an American citizen, but my husband is Colombian & we are forced to live in Colombia if I want to continue my marriage. I know I have to return to the US to have children because if they are born outside the US it is possible for US citizenship to be denied since only one of us are US citizens. Until they change the laws your child will be a US citizen, get all the documents before traveling, birth certificate, passport, etc.

good luck

I don't think you need a service to do it; you can get the expedited passport yourself. You can get a passport in one day, if you have an emergency and will travel to a Passport Authority location (have done this myself).

You do not have to return to the US to have children if the US citizen parent has lived in the US for the required number of years there is no challenge.

I'm afraid they'll not consider it emergency?

We had a -vacation- scheduled for the week after my spouse's naturalization. Since he was then a US citizen he had to travel as a US citizen. We made an appointment for the one-day service and had to show the proof of our travel.. tickets etc (the details are in the link I gave you).
You can not book the passport appointment more than two weeks from your travel time and you must have proof of impending travel.

I shouldn't have used the word 'emergency'. You must have an urgent need, which you do.
