Does an affidavit have to be witnessed by a lawyer ?

When filing a petition to remove conditions for a conditional permanent resident it requires to affidavits, do these have to me legal affidavits prepared by a lawyer or can they be letters signed and dated by the person confirming the statements witnessed by a notary ?
