Hi:

I need some advice, here is my profile and questions. Appreciate your input!!

Status: International Grad student on F1 Visa

Time in the US: 3.5 years

My girlfriend and I have been in a relationship for almost 2 years and we want to get married. I have several questions:

1. I usually travel abroad several times a year. If I don't have a pending application for residence -green card-, would the fact of getting married limit my multiple re-entry privileges of my F1 visa?

2. What forms do I need to apply for residence?

2. If i decide to apply for residence, what should I do to be able to travel abroad?

3. Are the new fees on residence application, adjustment of status, etc. effective now?

1. You might have problems traveling on a F-1 visa after you are married, even if you have not submitted anything to the USCIS because you will be presumed to have immigrant intent as a result of your marriage. It would be best for you to apply for permanent residence and, along with that, apply for a travel document that would allow you to travel internationally while the permanent residence petition process is pending.

2. If you are going to do the process on your own, you can look at the forms and instructions on the USCIS website. If you work with an immigration attorney, the attorney will take care of all the forms on your and your spouse's behalf.

3. Yes, the new fees are in effect as of 7/30/07.
