Green Card renewal and criminal record

What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? CA
I'm due for a green card renewal. But I made a horrible mistake: I was convicted of a felony in 1996 in Michigan (larceny, 1 year probation). The record was expunged, but from what I've read so far INS doesn't take expungement into consideration. I talked to several attorneys regarding this but keep hearing conflicting opnions. My question is will I be at risk for deportation if I try to renew my green card or if I go on vacation to another country?
