I hope someone can help me with this.

I currently am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend is a US citizen. We have been together for 9 months and have been visiting each other back and forth during this time. I have now been in the US visiting him since December 1st (excluding 3 days when we both went back to Canada for Christmas).

We are planning on marrying asap while I'm in the US but we just need to know the legalities of it. I am currently on a B2 visa and my return flight back to Canada is January 16th.

Here is my question:

Are we able to get married before my B2 visa expires and I stay in the US until the proper papers are filed and approved? I'm assuming that would take a few months before I was able to return back to Canada. Can you tell me if that is correct? If it's not, then would you be able to let me know the right process we should take regarding this?

A question why as a Canadian Citizen do you need a visa to vissit, I have been vissiting my girlfriend over the last five years quite often without any visa
