Status

I was an exchanged student when I first came to U.S. And then I got adopted by an American family. I received my adoption decree before I turned 16. Now I am seventeen, and still don't know what my status in U.S is? I tried to get social security number twice, but the results were I got deny from social security office. Some of my friends say that I am eligible to become U.S citizenship (Got adopted before 16, both my adopted parents are U.S citizens, I have lived in U.S for 2 years). But I don't know what to do right now to become U.S citizenship. I hear something about filling out form I-130. I wonder if there is another form I have to fill. Some one help me!!! I need some advice about this.

Have you asked your parents?

What reason were you given when your SS number application was denied?

The reason my SS number application was denied because they want me to prove my U.S citizenship, which I am trying to get right now (need some help about it). I gave them my birth certificate, but it was not a prove of my U.S citizenship. Do you know what form I should fill out to apply for U.S citizenship?

You are still a minor. Why are your adoptive parents not assisting you?

I suggest that you go to your school counselor and ask for a referral to an agency to assist you and your parents in completing the necessary paperwork.

I agree with candg... you do not know what your situation is now and you need your adoptive parents involvement.

You should not try to do this yourself. If you don't want to ask your parents, take candg's advice.
